Hi, I’m Kate.

I’m Kaitlyn Harris (Jones), a former Team USA swimmer, 13-time NCAA All-American at the University of Virginia, experienced swim instructor, and—these days—mom.

Swimming has been a huge part of my life for more than 20 years. I represented the United States internationally, winning gold and silver at the Youth Olympic Games and competing as a finalist at the U.S. Olympic Trials. I later swam for the University of Virginia, where I was a 13-time All-American, 9-time ACC Champion, and helped build the foundation of what has become one of the country’s premier collegiate swimming programs.

But knowing how to swim and knowing how to teach a child to swim are two very different things.

I spent years teaching swim lessons to children of different ages, abilities, and comfort levels in the water. That experience taught me how to meet a child where they are, earn their trust, recognize what is holding them back, and break swimming into skills they can understand and master.

Today, as a mom myself, I have an even greater appreciation for what parents are looking for in a swim instructor. You want someone who knows the water inside and out—but you also want someone who is patient, encouraging, trustworthy, and genuinely good with your child.

That’s what I want private lessons with me to feel like.

I come directly to your home pool and work one-on-one with your child, which gives me the ability to tailor every lesson to them—their personality, their current ability, their confidence level, and your family’s goals. And because you’re right there, I can also show you what we’re working on and how to continue building those skills between lessons.

Whether your child is hesitant to put their face in the water, ready to become an independent swimmer, or already swimming and looking to improve their technique, I bring high-level swimming expertise down to their level—and make learning feel fun.

I’d love to meet your family and help your child become a more confident, capable swimmer.
